The Rise and Fall of Global Movements

As we built our own platform and gathered research, we witnessed blooms and fizzles

In late 2011 and the start of 2012, we decided to discontinue our management of Michi Village due to complications with the founder - so we focused on building a database for Project Evo - scouring the world wide web and asking all our friends for every awesome social enterprise across Indonesia. We built a database with GPS coordinates, phone numbers, emails, websites, descriptions, and key people for 400 verified social enterprises across the archipelago.

While we did this, we watched THRIVE and started solution groups in Jakarta and Bali, we witnessed the rise of the occupy movement, and watched documentaries about 2012 and asked the Universe if existence on Planet Earth was really coming to an end, and we celebrated the rise of the Anonymous collective.

Later in 2012, we discovered the birth of an eco village on the outskirts of Ubud, based on permaculture principles, and with a group of people super aligned with project evo values and vision. Those involved in Project Evo at the time got involved, and our co-founder Drigo took out a family loan and bought a small plot of land on the site, and was super pleased to have found a new home in Ubud. Project Evo had found a new homebase in Bali, and with it came many friends who would later get involved in Project Evo, including the two founders of Taman Petanu - Mel and Petra.
