Michi Retreat in Ubud, Bali: a new homebase

Amidst the chaos of Jakarta and start-up life, we found a have to escape to...

A global homebase for Project Evo was established

In Ubud, we discovered delicious vegan food, yoga teachers, eco entreprenuers, TED talks, and an international and local community with aligned values. An older global nomad in his 80s asked for help to manage his resort village - a 23 room retreat nestled in a valley of rice paddies and bordering the Wos River. There we discovered a library dedicated to Gandhi and Tagore, a beautiful yoga studio, a Japanese inspired Zen meditation hut over a man made pond, an art gallery, a restaurant and lounge, a spa overlooking the river, and behind it all a founder who was a charming Mongolian American man who wished to create a nest for creative individuals.

We agreed upon a trial phase and managed Michi Retreat for 6 months, creating events, upgrading the rooms, attracting long term guests, and training the team. We re-branded Michi Retreat into Michi Village.

Whereas Pulau Macan was the focus on living in harmony with Nature, Michi Village was all about culture, art, humanity, and spirituality. Each of the 23 rooms and villas showcased a different culture from around the world where Professor of Cultural Anthropology David Kung had lived and visited. In this phase, we focused on applying our successes with Pulau Macan at Michi Village, and enjoyed deploying the model in a new location and with a greater focus on long term residents.
